‘I was under a bit of pressure, I didn’t want to mess it up,’ Celtic Star on that Wonder Goal

HOW many of you thought that James Forrest’s goal at Pittodrie on Sunday was the Goal of the Season? Certainly I did, it was up there with that wonderful team goal Moussa Dembele finished off up at McDiarmid Park in the Invincible season. Maybe this one was even better.

Yesterday James Forrest spoke at the Celtic Media Conference about the responsibility he felt as he picked up possession around the penalty spot to finish off what had been wonderful play from his Celtic teammates. He just had to finish it off by finding the back of the net.

“I was under a bit of pressure when I stepped on to it. I didn’t want to mess it up as all the boys had put so much effort into the move.

“I remember at the time it was a really good move and it all happened so quickly at the end.

“Mohamed Elyounoussi turned and was maybe going to shoot himself but he was off balance. I was just buzzing to score and put the finishing touch to such a good goal.

“That goal was maybe the icing on the cake for the way we played on Sunday. It was a brilliant team goal and it showed we were all at it, which you have to be when you are playing Aberdeen. The goal just summed up the performance.

“Home and away, it’s always tough against Aberdeen but we were still buzzing after beating Lazio. It’s maybe unfair to criticise Aberdeen as we were all really at it and we didn’t give them a chance to get in the game,” Jamesy said that the club’s Media Conference (watch below) and as reported by Scottish Sun.

“The games against them are always close but it was one of those days when everything came off. The first half was unbelievable but we can’t get too carried away as we have another game soon. It can all change quickly so we need to keep our levels high.”

Forrest, like all his teammates are well aware that it’s only goal difference that separate Celtic from second placed the Rangers at the top of the Premiership and this league race is something he believes that will drive the Celtic players on to produce even better performances in the weeks and months ahead.

“It makes you raise your game when the league is really tight. You know you can’t afford to put in a bad performance because you don’t want to be chasing.

“That definitely keeps you on your toes when you come off the back of a European or cup game. You know you need to come back and get a result in the league.

“You see our performances in the last two league games after the Livingston defeat and it is probably the best two that we have put in. With the league being so tight you need to be up there to stay there. You don’t want to fall behind it, you want to be setting it.

“It’s great to be involved in this team and you can see the confidence, collectively and individually.

“It shows with the results and the performances. Everyone is in a really good place and we are working hard. We want to stay in that place because of how much we are enjoying it.”
