And now, Jude Bonnar has revealed he is eager to push forward, drawing motivation from Hoops captain Callum McGregor.

Bonnar made his Celtic debut as a substitute in last month’s 5-1 victory over Aberdeen at Celtic Park, where he is regarded as a promising talent inside the club. He was then called up to the Under-21 squad and made an instant impression by netting Scotland’s second goal in their 2-0 victory over Ireland in Murcia, Spain on Friday.

Bonnar, 19, is expected to feature for Scot Gemmill’s side once again this afternoon against Iceland at the same stadium in Scotland’s second friendly of their training camp. He’s determined to finish the season on a high note.

“It’s been a good couple of months for me”

Bonnar said: “It’s been a good couple of months for me getting my opportunity at the club and now here to come on and score for my country. I’ve acted the exact same since I made my debut. I’ve been doing the same on and off the pitch and I have continued to train hard.

“The manager at my club has told me to keep doing the right things and to work hard and I will get my chances. In terms of who I look up to, I just watch the captain all the time and see what he does every day.

“All the Celtic players are top athletes”

“All the Celtic players are top athletes and being around them, every day makes me want to be like them. It was a dream come true to get on the pitch for Celtic. It was brilliant. I know I have to keep doing what I am doing and work hard and see where it takes me.”

Bonnar was credited with the goal, even though Kilmarnock midfielder David Watson claimed to have gotten the final touch after Bonnar pounced on the rebound. The 19 year-old is aiming to make a strong impression under Gemmill.

“I enjoyed it and hope to get another game against Iceland”

He said: “I’m not too sure if it was my goal or whether David Watson has got a touch, but I’ll take it!

“It was brilliant for me to play. I’ve really enjoyed the week and to get on the pitch and make an impact was great for me. It’s never easy coming on off the bench especially when it’s international football too. But I enjoyed it and hope to get another game against Iceland.”
