Jim Craig’s Festive Moments – Willie Maley’s Celtic team rose to the challenge

On this day in 1901, Celtic faced Kilmarnock at Celtic Park.

Their record in their previous 6 matches had been pretty poor – Won 2, Drawn 2 and Lost 2 – so manager Willie Maley was keen to give the supporters something to cheer about at this time of year.

The team he put out was a strong one – McFarlane, Watson, Battles, Loney, Marshall, Orr, Hodge, McOustra, Campbell, McMahon, Quinn – and it rose to the challenge, beating the men from Ayrshire 4-1, with the goals coming from Willie McOustra (3) and Johnny Hodge.
