John Arne Riise believes Kris Ajer will leave Celtic soon

Kris Ajer has formed a brilliant partnership with Christopher Jullien at the heart of the Celtic defence and is surely one of the first names on Neil Lennon’s team-sheet every week. But his good form also means that he has attracted the interest of clubs around Europe, who hope to lure him away from Parkhead.

The Norwegian international has been a staple in the Celtic team, already making 32 appearances for the Hoops this season. He has contributed 2 goals and 2 assists, and is a huge asset to Neil Lennon as he is capable of playing at both centre-back and right-back. And since the arrival of Christopher Jullien from Toulouse earlier in the summer, the two have gone on to form arguably the best defensive pairing in Scottish football.

One man who has certainly been impressed with the 21-year-old is Norway legend, John Arne Riise. The former Liverpool star believes that his fellow Norwegian is the next big thing to come out of Parkhead and is good enough to be a success in the Premier League. And although he believes that Ajer will move away from Scotland eventually, Riise has full faith that he would not run down his contract or force a move away from Celtic.

As reported by Herald Scotland, Riise said:

“He’s a good player but he’s going to be even better.

“He’s a winner and I expect him to move on to a bigger club eventually, which is fine as long as Celtic get what they deserve.

“Providing Celtic tie players like him down on contracts then they have the right model because I don’t like to see players moving to big clubs for free once they are out of contract.”

“I don’t think Kris will do that because he knows how much Celtic have done for him, but he’s the next big thing and he’s good enough to play in the Premier League.”

While Odsonne Edouard is often dubbed as the next big player to move away from Celtic, Ajer is certainly a dark horse in that respect. But Hoops fans will be hoping that the club does not lose the Norwegian international anytime soon as he is a very important cog in the Celtic wheel at this moment and it would be very hard to replace him.

Kris Ajer has always spoken about being happy playing for Celtic and while his success on the park inevitably means that he will attract interest from elsewhere, there is little chance that he’s going to be heading for the exit door for the foreseeable future at least!
