Journalist claims club officials are optimistic over Ntcham deal

Journalist Giannis Chorianopolous has claimed that AEK Athens club officials are optimistic that they can seal a deal for Celtic’s Olivier Ntcham. The Greek Editor of Sportime was on the inside track for the deal to sign Vasilis Barkas last summer and now said on Twitter that the Super League side are confident in a resolution that will see the 25-year-old swap the Green and White of Celtic for the Black and Gold of Athens.

The Frenchman joined from Manchester City for £4.5m in 2017. The player blew hot and cold across a three and a half year spell before his loan move to Marseille in January. It looked as if he would make the switch permanently back to France but endured a torrid time resulting in him coming back to Glasgow. However, AEK Athens are willing to pay him £20,000-per-week and a move to Greece may appeal to the player.

The midfielder signed for Brendan Rodgers from City and has made 137 appearances, scoring 23 goals in a trophy laden period for the club. He was a frustrating player but it would be useful if Celtic could get a fee for the player as they look to ramp up the rebuild this summer under incoming boss Ange Postecoglou.
