Journalist claims Celtic reject Arsenal bid for Odsonne Edouard

ARSENAL are said to have made an offer for Celtic’s talisman, Odsonne Edouard. Duncan Castles, the transfer journalist, has said that the North London club are looking to sign the Frenchman as his compatriot Lacazette looks set for the exit door at the Emirates.

Don’t worry, though. The figures mentioned are nowhere near the valuation that Celtic will have for their star striker and Arsenal know this.

Arteta’s side have offered £22.5m for the highly rated Frenchman, who has scored 13 goals in 8 appearances for the international U21 side. This follows the alleged derogatory offer of £15m for Edouard, which the club should have made a note of informing them that it was a fraction of his worth and that they should know that. Celtic simply cannot sell Edouard this season as he is too important to the club’s push for 10IAR as well as the morale of the fanbase.

The Frenchman was in incredible form last season, scoring 28 goals and notching 12 assists in 45 appearances in all competitions as Celtic steamed towards matching Jock Stein’s 1974 record. Now, with a new deal behind him he can be the man to fire us to 10IAR.

Celtic should hold out for at least £40m after this season. Edouard is too important to sell and the news earlier this week was promising for supporters as it alluded to a contract extension for French Eddy with the caveat of a release clause.

£25m price tag for future transfers and Peter Lawwell held out for every last penny. Everton tried and failed with a cut price approach and it took Arsenal a while before they eventually agreed to pay the full asking price. These days the Gunners reckon they got the bargain of the century as Tierney has become a huge hero among their support.

If Edouard is looking for a similar type of deal then surely that is not unreasonable. But the asking price, as The Celtic Star told you back in February, the Celtic asking price for Edouard is going to be at least £40million.

Unlike Tierney , who came through the Celtic Academy, Edouard arrived from PSG for a fee of around £9.5million and PSG will have a sell-on clause in any deal. Last weekend the Daily Mail claimed that this could be as high as 40%. Knowing of Peter Lawwell’s dealing, this would appear unlikely.

Hopefully a deal is sorted soon though as retaining Edouard for another season would be good for the morale around Celtic Park this season as well as giving the fanbase a huge boost.
