Juranovic Says He Would Have Been Happy To Make Debut In Goal, Whilst Croatian Feels No Atmosphere Compares To Hadjuk Split’s Stadion Poljud

Celtic’s new full back, Josip Juranovic, made an impressive debut in last weekend’s Glasgow derby. Asked to play in an unfamiliar left back role, he looked solid, calm and showcased a magnificent first touch at times. The result was ultimately disappointing, but Josip was pleased to play in such an important fixture.

When asked by the Daily Record how the Dinamo Zagreb v Hadjuk Split fixture compares to his experience on Sunday, Juranovic said: “It’s a hard question which game is bigger, especially as it’s difficult to compare anything with Hajduk’s full Stadion Poljud. It was a wonderful feeling to play in a game between Celtic and Rangers though.”

The line of questioning then focused on the player’s versatility. Josip responded by stressing his desire to slot in wherever required. The Croatian said: “The only thing that was strange to me was that I had to play as a left back. The manager wanted me to play there as he only had one young player left who was capable of playing that position due to injuries. I happily agreed with him because I wanted to make an impact in the derby. If there were no goalkeepers and he wanted me to play there, I would if I had to!”

Fortunately, there has been little time for many of Celtic’s players to stew on the result at Ibrox. Indeed, a number of individuals quickly departed for international duty and Juranovic did just that as Croatia travelled to Russia for a World Cup Qualifying match.

Getting another full 90 minutes under his belt, the Celtic star was pleased with the evening’s work in the Luzhniki Stadium. “I played in Russia and we collected a great point in a hostile atmosphere,” he said. “I think we are in a good position in the qualifying group.

“I really enjoyed playing with Dejan Lovren and we have a great understanding. We talk about movements, he warns me when to leave the space. He is one of the leaders of our team and we all have to listen to him.”

Croatia face Slovakia tomorrow evening, before a home clash against Slovenia awaits next Tuesday. The Celtic faithful will be hoping that he returns injury free, ready to play against Ross County at Paradise on Saturday 11 September.
