Kennedy Praises Celtic’s Mentality as Domestic Run Continues

John Kennedy has praised Celtic after the overcame tough conditions as well as a dogged Clyde side to book their place in the quarter finals of the Scottish Cup.

Despite the reminders of the 2006 shock everywhere to be seen around the buildup to this match, Celtic appeared to banish any notion of a giant-killing by gaining in control on a day that Storm Ciara dictated most of the proceedings. First half goals from midfield pairing Olivier Ntcham and Scott Brown settled the game with Bayo netting late on to complete the scoreline.

“Under difficult conditions it was good. We can never take anyone lightly but we were comfortable and a lot of players who needed minutes got some.

“The boys were professional. We played a strong team to win the game and we done that convincingly.”

Kennedy singled out striker Patryk Klimala for praise after the Poland U21 striker made his first start for Celtic today. Klimala was denied his first goal in the Hoops thanks to Clyde’s Mitchell making an impressive stop as Klimala was put through by James Forrest.

”He’s still settling in but he’s done well. He’s got good speed and he’s a good size. On another day he would have scored his chance. He’ll be fine long-term.”

The Assistant Manager also complimented the team’s mentality, following a gruelling return to action after the winter break, Celtic may have let their level slip in years gone by but the professionalism of the side shone through

”The mentality of the group is really strong. There’s a real will to go out and win every game in every competition.”

Kennedy reflected on the Quarter Final draw which put Celtic away from home to St Johnstone for a place in the semi-final but the team aren’t looking that far ahead. Now, Celtic face Daniel Stendel’s Hearts on Wednesday before another tricky away game – Aberdeen at Pittodrie.

“St Johnstone will be a difficult game, but we’ll look at it when it comes to it. Now, we’ll focus on Hearts on Wednesday night.”

Overall a lot positives for Celtic today but there will be no heroes of 2020 paraded on the pitch at Broadwood in 14 years time, Celtic were professional and got the job done and that’s all that matters.
