Kouassi Hopes for Celtic Exit as Belgian League Ends

Celtic’s Eboue Kouassi has admitted that he hopes to remain in Belgium after the league officials declared the league was over with Club Brugge becoming champions.

The Celtic misfit joined Genk on loan in January after 15 months on the fringes for the Scottish Champions. Kouassi will be hoping that the Belgians will exercise their option to buy amidst the lockdown uncertainty.

“I have been focused on my loan at Genk and I hope to be able to play for them when this is over.

“I don’t want people thinking this hasn’t been a successful loan move just because I haven’t played too many games. I don’t see this as a failure…quite the opposite.

“When I joined Genk, I was not physically ready, but once I got fit, the manager showed he had faith in me and played me as soon as he could.

“If it wasn’t for the coronavirus, I would still be in the team.

“So I don’t see it as a failed loan – I view it as a success.”

The 22-year-old joined Celtic from Krasnodor in January 2017 for £2.8m but failed to live up to his promise. The Congerton and Rodgers signing is one that in retrospect highlights the flaws in their recruitment model.

Despite the quality that Kouassi showed in some games, he couldn’t get a run of games together and ultimately, won’t be missed should he leave.

Earlier today, we told you how the Belgian league had set a precedent by being the first European league to declare their standings final with Club Brugge champions. Scotland should follow suit by declaring Celtic champions.
