Kyogo’s spiralling downfall sad to see, January swap for Yang mooted

The spiralling downfall of Kyogo is sad to see…

Kyogo Furuhashi is an icon amongst the Celtic support, and rightly so. Signed for the modest sum of £4.5 million back in 2021 by Ange Postecoglou, the little Japanese star bagged an impressive 85 goals in 165 appearances winning a host of honours, before joining French side Rennes last January this year in a £10 million move.

It wasn’t just his goals, it was his all round infectious enthusiasm. He was a very popular player, one of the most iconic in the clubs history. Kyogo will always be well remembered and respected by the supporters, such was his contribution to the club.

Unfortunately for Kyogo things didn’t exactly work out at Rennes as he made only six appearances, and failed to find the net in what proved to be a disastrous move.

Kyogo moved on after just after just six months in France, with Birmingham City his destination, as he decided to try his luck in the English Championship.

So far to date, England seems to be as charmed as France for the Japanese International as he’s struggled to show his true form, making nineteen appearances scoring a solitary goal in the blue of Birmingham.

It’s now been reported that Kyogo could be on the move once again as he’s fell out of favour at St Andrews, being deemed low down on a pecking order that includes former Livi striker and current Scotland international Lyndon Dykes.

Kyogo had a burning desire to leave Celtic, but unfortunately it hasn’t worked out for the bubbly Japanese striker.

He more than deserved his chance of earning one last big contract, whilst testing himself on a bigger stage. Although unfortunately it hasn’t worked out as he’d expected as he’s now struggling for game time with a mid table English Championship side.

Ironically he wanted to leave Celtic in order to fulfil has dream of playing for his country in next summer’s World Cup Finals. That now seems extremely unlikely to happen.

It represents something of a spiralling downfall, which is rather sad to see. On a Birmingham City forum there’s some talk of Kyogo, who was effectively swapped for Jota in his move to France, could be part of another swap deal in January. Birmingham remain interested in signing Yang in January and would apparently be open to Kyogo going in the other direction.

Had Kyogo been leading the line for Celtic on Wednesday he’d have scored a hat-trick. Would you swap Yang for Kyogo?
