Lennon set to make Celtic Park return but his analysis will be disregarded – opinion

Neil Lennon is set to make his big return to Celtic Park since his sacking seven months ago  – in the form of the punditry team on BT Sport.

Lennon, 50, was sacked at the end of February 2021 by Celtic chiefs after arguably Celtic’s worst season since the turn of the century.

Despite having top-class talent on their hands such as Odsonne Edouard, Jeremie Frimpong and Kristoffer Ajer, Lennon’s men didn’t win a trophy for the first time in 11 years and the second time in just 18 – leaving fans calling for his head.

Ange Postecoglou has come in and arguably done a worse job, although he is still at the ‘teething stage’ part of his tenure.

And Lennon’s return comes at a crunch time for Postecoglou, who after two embarrassing results in the Scottish Premier League, needs something to wow supporters.

Fans are completely on his side – they understand that Celtic are majorly going through a transitional period at the moment, and therefore there is unwavering support at trying to rally the team ahead of a long, gruelling season.

Injuries and want away stars have not helped the big Australian’s cause, but results will have to pick up sooner rather than later if he is to keep the attentions of the fans.

Which is why it seems extremely strange that Lennon will be in the studio criticising Ange over his tactical decision making when he was the one to succeed the ginger-haired icon.

It’s a similar scenario to your girlfriend’s ex-husband criticising everything wrong you are doing at the early parts of your relationship, claiming he could have done it better – when he quite clearly couldn’t.

It will definitely make for interesting viewing and will offer an insight as to where Celtic went wrong under Lennon and where they are going right under Ange – and vice versa.

But there is a gnawing feeling that – to me – thinks Celtic’s love in for the big Aussie and refusal to accept Lennon’s tactical nous will mean that every comment of Lennon’s will be disregarded.
