Maeda’s in no rush to leave Celtic and certainly not for a move to Fenerbahce

We want all to keep Daizen Maeda at Celtic let’s be clear about that, but if he goes it will be for top dollar and it will certainly not be to Fenerbahce…

There’s been murmurs of proposed interest in Scotland’s Player of the Year Daizen Maeda mainly from Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce, with the reported figure on offer from the Turkish side quite frankly insulting for a player of Daizen’s calibre.

Celtic have quite rightly placed a price tag of at least £25 million on the Japanese international who at this moment in time is viewed as our most valuable asset.

Dazien is a fans favourite due to his overall commitment to the side, and under Brendan Rodgers he’s developed into a better all round player which was duly recognised as he was named player of the year by both his fellow peers and the written press.

If Daizen were to leave he should be aiming his heights higher than Fenerbahce. The Turkish side are a step down from Celtic and if he harbours any thoughts of moving on it should be to a much bigger club.

Fenerbahce have been absent from the Champions League for 15 years and failed to get past a poor – in more ways than one – theRangers side in the Europa League, so that tells you all you need to know about their current stature in the game.

Although as always it comes down to money, but even then the Turkish side look unlikely to match Celtic’s asking price considering the most the Super Lig side have ever splashed out on a player is the €19.5 million (£16.4 million) they parted with for Youssef En Nesyri in 2024.

We want to keep Daizen, but if we get an offer we can’t refuse, the reality is that he will be on the first plane out of Glasgow, but his destination certainly won’t be Fenerbahce. Daizen we understand is in no rush to leave Celtic and would be happy to sign a contract extension that will take him up among the top earners at the club. That is only fair and reasonable and it will suit all parties.

Time to get it done Celtic, the sooner the better.

  1. Absolutely spot on. Daizen is our most important player and only if he expresses a desire to leave should that come about. Talk of £25M is ridiculous anyway. Daizen is a superstar and any interested club should be looking at having to pay a fee far in excess of £25.
