Manchester City have reportedly offered Ian Poveda to Celtic for free

Celtic can do with another option on the wings at the moment. The club have sold Scott Sinclair to Preston North End in the January transfer window while Lewis Morgan is also on his way out of the club and joining David Beckham’s MLS franchise, Inter Miami. As a result, the squad’s wing depth has been severely affected.

The Hoops have signed Patryk Klimala in this transfer window and a deal for Ismaila Soro also looks almost done. And now a new winger could not be very far down in Neil Lennon’s shopping list. As reported by Tuttosport and cited by Sport Witness, Celtic have been offered the opportunity to sign Manchester City winger, Ian Poveda, for free if they agree to include a buyback clause in his contract.

Poveda has spent time in the youth academies of some of the world’s biggest clubs in the form of Chelsea, Arsenal, FC Barcelona and Manchester City. He has also represented England at multiple youth levels but has not been able to break into Pep Guardiola’s team yet. And judging by how strong that senior team is, a move away from the club could be in the best interests of the youngster.

Obviously, the talent is there. And Celtic have only been given this opportunity because of the brilliant relationship that they have shared with the reigning English champions over the past several years. But they cannot afford rest on their laurels though as Leeds United and Torino are also interested in the youngster according to the Daily Mail. If the Hoops want the 19-year-old, they must move quick.
