Marvin Compper – Going, Going and almost Gone

HE played just 81 minutes for Celtic – against Morton in the Scottish Cup last March. The Celtic Star had an exclusive that morning the the veteran German defender would make his debut that day but what no-one knew was that this would also be his farewell performance in the Hoops.

Compper personifies the warped transfer window dealings that Celtic did in 2018. The team on the park delivered a second consecutive treble but the squad management from scouts to manager to Chief Executive was faulty.

Something had gone badly wrong and hopefully these internal problems have been addressed and sorted. Certainly Timothy Weah’s start yesterday would indicate a better approach and his fellow loan signing Oliver Burke also achieved his Celtic debut and looked promising enough.

He’s also played more football for Celtic in 2019 than Marvin Compper managed in 2018.

Yesterday Brendan Rodgers admitted that Compper time at Celtic is coming to an end as the club prepare to cut its losses on the former RB Leipzig man.

“There’s nothing as of yet – the club are speaking to Marvin’s representatives to try and find a solution.”

Compper himself has spoken of his desire to leave the club in the January window as he reckons he is fit and wants to play football before his career ends. He is aware that this will not happen at Celtic.

Peter Lawwell’s chequebook will be needed to end this dreadful signing saga once and for all.
