McCowan and Bernardo lay down Pittodrie teamsheet marker

Luke McCowan now showing he’s the real deal. Surely like Paulo Bernardo he’s in contention for a start at Pittodrie in midweek?

Luke McCowan was handed just his second start in a Celtic shirt yesterday, and he more than proved his worth yet again. Not only did he score to make it two goals in two starts, he also laid on three assists in a sizzling first half performance.

It wasn’t just his goal or his assists, Luke looks like he’s played in that Celtic midfield for years, and looks every inch a top quality player. Not only does he have the ability, he doesn’t shirk responsibility and gives everything for the side, he really is a superb footballer.

The same can be said of Paulo Bernardo who once again demonstrated his qualities as he put in yet another impressive performance. The big question is though, have both done enough to earn a starting place on Wednesday night against Aberdeen at Pittodrie?

In my eyes it’s yes and both should start, but will Brendan leave out Reo Hatate, and Arne Engels once again to accommodate Luke and Paulo? I have my doubts about that.

I know that Reo and Arne are vital in Brendan’s system, but it will be getting extremely difficult for him to ignore Luke and Paulo’s recent good form. It sure will be interesting when Wednesday’s line up is revealed.

Celtic have five top quality midfielder who are all first team starters. This is almost certainly going to be used to our advantage by Brendan Rodgers as he rotates and keeps legs as fresh as possible for the heavy fixture list between now and the next international break in March 2025. Remember there is no winter break this year and we also have at least three Champions League games, one this month and two  in January with hopefully more to follow.

All five midfielders – McGregor, Hatate, Engels, Bernardo and McCowan are likely to feature in most games with three starting and two getting half an hour. It seems to be working for Brendan at the moment, does it not?

  1. Bit like haita with close control can see a pass but it’s a hard one for Rodgers I’m sure who every picks will do a job for him bernardo yes with inglis settling in valle was out of position a few times he forgets he is a defender better passer than Taylor going forward more dangerous but wanders a bit hard one not like the right side when two of them are solid in defence but johnston is in a rich vein of form adahi kyoko adahi needs more games but every games so important and the movement of kyoko wins it khun maeda wingers with south Korean and forrest good substitutes palmer has his work cut out to get game time
