McManus Promoted to First Team Coach, Celtic’s Bolingoli punishment and the Ibrox Covid Breaches

Celtic have this afternoon confirmed that Reserve Coach and former club Captain, Stephen McManus, will be working alongside John Kennedy and Gavin Strachan as part of the first team coaching staff for the best of this season.

However there is no plans to give Scott Brown added coaching responsibilities for the remaining 8 matches of the season as Celtic strive to finish this hugely disappointing league campaign with 8 victories including 2 over theRangers.

That task starts tomorrow for John Kennedy, Strachan and McManus against Aberdeen at Celtic Park. Their manager Derek Mcinnes yesterday spoke about the way Neil Lennon has been treated this season as the Ten-in-a-Row hysteria got out of control. “He has been a bit of a punch bag for others,” the Aberdeen manager observed.

A quick word about the recent Covid breaches by the five players from theRangers and the lack of punishment from the Scottish FA. One of them apparently even came on as a substitute last night and scored in their Europa League match.

Having checked this today the position is that each Club deals with their own cases and SFA may take further action if required. Boli Bolingoli got a five match ban and although Celtic were hit with an SPFL fine, this was largely a result of rescheduling the fixture dates and most of it was suspended. So the circumstances in the Boli case were quite a bit different to latest case involving five players from theRangers and it was the Scottish Government’s intervention last August that resulted in Celtic and indeed Aberdeen getting fined.

My MSP has written to Nicola Sturgeon on this matter on my behalf and when we get a reply I will give you an update on The Celtic Star. Whether the Scottish FA decide to do anything further regarding the latest breach is unclear but I think we all know the answer to that one.

Here’s the Celtic confirmation that Stephen McManus has been moved up to work with the first team for the remaining games this season.
