Mikey Johnston can shine for Ireland and West Brom but sadly not Celtic

Mikey Johnston looks like a class act at West Brom, but sadly he has no future at Celtic…

Mikey Johnston continues to impress in the English Championship with West Bromwich Albion and is currently in Dublin on international duty with Ireland.

The Celtic winger joined the Midlands club on a loan deal until the end of the season and has become an instant hit with the supporters at the Hawthorns. He’s scored a few cracking goals – six in total – and added a few assists and looks a totally different player free from the pressures that being a Celtic player brings.

Mikey is a talented player, that isn’t in doubt, but his lack of consistency along with his injury problems have made sure his career as a Celtic player is coming to an end. He is 25 next month and he made his first team debut seven years ago. He’s never been a first team regular, but not for the lack of chances and despite this he’s never ever lived up to his early promise.

His lack of physique, his inconsistency and his mental toughness have let him down, and to be a Celtic player you have to have all these attributes. Unfortunately for Mikey his time at Celtic looks like it’s coming to an end despite many predicting that his fantastic performances for West Brom could earn him a Celtic reprieve.

Hopefully those good showings can get the club a decent fee for his services. I’ve nothing against Mikey as I think he’s a decent lad, but it’s best for all concerned if he moved on in the summer. He probably is thinking that himself.

My ambition is to one day become as good an author as my fellow Celtic Star colleagues.

  1. Couldn’t disagree with you whatsoever.
Always felt Mikey Johnston was really lacking confidence within his game with ourselves imo?
Possibly trying to hard and failing to deliver on so many occasions for ourselves?
Course injuries have had a massive impact upon his development, but also struggled with managers who wouldn’t have helped him with the confidence issues either?
Believe Rodgers loaned out Mikey to potentially regain the confidence that he’s lacking for so long with ourselves imo?
Certainly working at the moment, so wouldn’t totally write his Celtic career off just yet?
Think Mikey is currently within a growing list of players who’s Celtic careers will be decided during the summer?
If vata should sign a new contract, then Mikey will be possibly sold?
Forrest is part of the furniture within the club, but only offers very limited use to ourselves over a course of a season these days and reducing more and more with time also?
So could well be a place available for Mikey within a 25man squad and how it’s currently structured?
Given a choice I would prefer vata over Johnston next season imo with Forrest possibly providing extra cover as things stand?
So still remains a wait and see how the process will unfold?

Completely disagree; he’s a real talent and it’s up to Celtic’s coaching, sports science & psychology dept’s to find a way to make it work.
