Motherwell confirm the signing of Celtic defender

Motherwell have confirmed the signing of Adam Montgomery on a loan deal until the end of the season. The 21-year-old was recalled by Celtic from a spell at Fleetwood Town, where he joined Scott Brown before Broony departed the EFL League One side.

As confirmed by Motherwell, the Fir Park club announced the promising left-back’s arrival as they look for stability after what has been a rough period for Stuart Kettlewell’s team.

“I’m chuffed to be here,” Montgomery said.

“I’m excited to get going and show the fans what I can do. It’s been really good meeting all the boys so far and feel it’s a great environment to be playing football.”

Montgomery made his debut in the penultimate game of the 2020/21 season against St Johnstone and continued his first team involvement under Ange at the beginning of his reign. Clearly he is one that Celtic want to see progress and his loan spell at St Johnstone was productive – now he will look to impress with Motherwell.

Brendan Rodgers appears keen to send players on the periphery of the squad out to Scottish teams, such as Kwon going to St Mirren. There is real merit in strengthening teams around the league with players who are then ineligible to face Celtic but can face Rangers; not to mention grow and impress in the league.

The Scottish Champions are looking to streamline their squad this month as well as adding quality to their ranks. Nicolas Kuhn is close to being completed, with the player due to complete a medical shortly. Thereafter, the club will focus on a left back and a striker.
