“I thoroughly enjoyed my spell as a Celtic player,” Elvis

Elvis wasn’t the most popular, but he gave his all for Celtic…

When Stephen Pressley signed for Celtic in early 2007, you could say it came as a bit of a shock to the Celtic support. Elvis as he was known, was never the most popular figure amongst the Celtic supporters, and it had nothing to do with him being an ex-Rangers player.

Stephen was a mainstay in a Hearts side in the early to mid-2000s and he was one of those players who could antagonised both rival players and supporters alike. To say he was unpopular amongst the Celtic supporters would have been an understatement.

But Gordon Strachan brought him in for his experience and the Elgin born centre-half never let anyone down. During his brief 18 month stint at the club he made only 19 league appearances, but nevertheless helped the club clinch the double in his first few months at the club.

He also became the first player to win the Scottish Cup with three different clubs.

Stephen still speaks highly of his time at the club, and he must be given credit for having the bottle to make such a move. So while he was not the most popular player before he joined, and even when he was a Celtic player it must be said, he gave nothing but one hundred percent for the jersey and helped us win honours, and we should be grateful for his efforts.

On 17 June 2008, Stephen Pressley announced he was to leave Celtic and said this about his time wearing the Hoops:

“I thoroughly enjoyed my spell as a Celtic player, I can’t speak highly enough about the club and I was treated extremely well by everybody,” Stephen Pressley

About Author

An ordinary everyday Celtic supporters hailing and still residing in Govan in the shadows of the enemy. I’m a season ticket holder. I Witnessed my first Celtic game in 1988 and have attended when I can ever since. Growing up in the 90s I witnessed Celtic at their lowest, and now appreciate the historic success we enjoy today. I enjoy writing about this wonderful football club and hopefully will continue to do so. I’ve always been a keen writer and initially started this a hobby. My ambition is to one day become as good an author as my fellow Celtic Star colleagues.

  1. This was yet another example of how a minority of small-minded Celtic fans show a huge amount of ignorance and lack of education, when they focus on the wrong things, the negatives, and can cause serious damage to the club on the long term.
Due to their blindness, ignorance and frankly, stupidity, they allow bias, bigotry and in many cases the media to get inside their heads which clearly isn’t difficult due to a serious lack of real knowledge!
Having been very poorly parented, many nutcases we watch, read about and listen week after week, target players they single out who are signings for the club for a reason!
Yet the actions of the uneducated works towards pushing that success away and only succeeds in damaging the club on the short and long terms.
Players like Pressley, Kenny Miller were both detested by a large section of so-called Celtic fans just because they were once previously fierce oponents!
If anything shows ignorance to me thats it right there!
Give me a fierce opponent anyday and bring him on board, rather than a coward!
Then there’s the Abada situation where the very uneducated fans are doing their very best to let him know they don’t want Israelis here. Not that this political situation has anything to do with the game of course, or the team.
    Great parenting!
