Neil Lennon hits back at Derek McInnes for claims about Kris Ajer

Sam Cosgrove was shown a red card for his challenge on Kris Ajer during Aberdeen’s game against Celtic. The appeal to overturn the decision was also rejected by the governing body and as a result the striker is set to miss the club’s next two Premiership games. And after having scored 20 goals this season, he will surely be a huge miss for the Dons.

Thus, there was certainly a bitter taste in Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes’ mouth while discussing Cosgrove’s red card. He was adamant that the referee had made the wrong decision in sending off the striker and even went on to suggest that Ajer had feigned injury in order to influence the decision.

As expected, Neil Lennon did not take too kindly to his Aberdeen counterpart’s words. As reported by the Daily Record, the Celtic boss said:

“I’m not convinced about that at all.

“Kris in’t like that. At the end of the day, he’s on the receiving end of a very heavy tackle.

“Whether he’s winking or not is irrelevant and I have no evidence he did do that. Derek should be concentrating on his own player and I’ll concentrate on mine.”

This is a perfect reply from the Celtic manager. Aberdeen have been making too much fuss about what would have been adjudged to be a red card nine out of ten times. The challenge was clearly very heavy from Cosgrove and it is hard to justify all the noise that the Aberdeen camp have been making since their 2-1 loss at Parkhead.
