NEIL LENNON has been named the Scottish FootbalL Writers’ Association Manger of the Year. This is the third time that the Irishman has been awarded the accolade and following another Double with Celtic (and with the club still in the Scottish Cup semi-finals).
Lennon’s Celtic have equalled the 9IAR record set by Jock Stein in 1974 and it is fitting that the man that started the run back in 2012 would be the man to lead the charge towards an unprecedented 10IAR.
Lennon previously won the award in 2012 and 2013 but this season, Lennon has continued the dominance of the Scottish game that the club have enjoyed in recent years. Celtic won the Betfred Cup 1-0 over Rangers back in December but Rangers beat Celtic at Paradise to set up what appeared to be a tight title race. However, the mentality of Lennon overcame the challenge and Celtic charged ahead to win the title by 13 points.
The likelihood is that had Coronavirus not caused the season to be curtailed prematurely, Celtic would have extended their points tally and were in scintillating form which would have likely resulted in another Treble.
Lennon was thrown into the deep end as Celtic manager following Brendan Rodgers’ departure to Leicester; however, he delivered an unprecedented Treble Treble and although he may not have been everyone’s first choice, he has proven himself to be the man for the job.
Long may his reign continue. Congratulations to the gaffer.
