Neil Lennon’s new role means everyone can finally move on from last season

Former Celtic player and manager Neil Lennon has made a return to football after being confirmed as Omonia Nicosia boss. The 50-year-old had stepped out of the dugout before ramping up his media appearances as Celtic began to blossom under Ange Postecoglou. Many are rightfully still quite unhappy with the way things ended up last season.

Ryan Christie came out and spoke about last season, which feels like a distant memory now. Hopefully, the fact that the Irishman is back in coaching will leave many feeling like the past is left best alone.

Supporters rightly felt aggrieved with the way things transpired last year, especially with Lennon’s seeming reluctance to step aside even though the season was destined for failure. Lennon’s comments after the defeat to Ferencvaros seemed to set the tone for what would come. It appeared to be everything that could go wrong, went wrong as the COVID-19 title went across the city.

With that said, Lennon won ten titles with Celtic, eight Scottish Cups and three league cups in two spells as manager and as a player. He will always be a Celtic legend but it was clear that his time as manager was up. Lennon will be recognised for all that he has done for the club but it may take some time as last season has been incredibly tough for everyone involved.

The feel-good factor is back at Celtic under Ange and with Lennon now back in the game, we can finally put to bed last season with everyone focusing on what can be achieved this year and beyond instead of what could have been last year.

His record as manager with Celtic and Hibs and player with Celtic and Leicester 2nd to none.
New club in many ways a reflection of Celtic with a proud tradition and left wing support base.
