Celtic to offer Nicolas Kuhn an improved contract extension over the coming weeks and also plan to extend Kasper Schmeichel’s Paradise stay…
As reported by Scott Burns via Daily Record, Celtic will open negotiations with Kuhn this month in an attempt to align him to the higher earners at the club following his scintillating form in the first half of this season.
Kuhn attracting interest
The German winger whose contract runs out in 2029 signed for the Scottish champions last January from Austrian side Rapid Vienna. The 25 year-old penned a four-year deal at Paradise, and with Nicolas Kuhn attracting interest from a host of European clubs after an eye-catching Champions League and domestic campaign so far, Celtic hold all the cards.
Since the beginning of the campaign, Kuhn has netted 14 times and provided 11 assists in all competitions. After a difficult start to life in Glasgow through dental issues, Celtic’s star man has fully settled into life in Scotland and has all the hallmarks of a top player.
Kuhn is next on the Celtic list
Sanctioning lengthy contracts to key assets Alistair Johnston, Callum McGregor and Cameron Carter-Vickers, Kuhn is next on the list for the Celtic hierarchy who will be aiming to protect the players value and also reward him at the same time.
Meanwhile, the report by Scott Burns also outlines that Celtic will also open talks with Kasper Schmeichel. The Great Dane signed a one-year deal in the summer with an option to extend at the end of this season. The 38 year-old shotstopper has been the signing of the summer for Celtic tallying up a remarkable 15 clean sheets in 18 league matches.
Keeping Kasper is a no-brainer
With the transfer window opening, speculation around incomings, outgoings, and contract extensions are rife. One thing is for certain, tying Kuhn down on an extended deal should be a priority for Celtic this month. And deciding to keep Kasper at the club for another season is something of a no-brainer for Brendan Rodgers.
Uncertainty at left-back
Less certain is the future of Greg Taylor who is now free to speak to other clubs about pre-contract terms as he enters the final few months of his current Celtic contract with no breakthrough in sight. Celtic have been heavily linked with a Kieran Tierney reunion after the former £25m star has been told that Arsenal will not extend his contract in the summer.
Alex Valle is an option too providing the player wants to sign a permanent deal in the summer and whether Barcelona and Celtic can reach a deal on a transfer.
