“No Criminality”, Police Scotland clear Leigh Griffiths

Police Scotland have cleared Leigh Griffiths for any criminality relating to social media behaviour. As reported by The Scottish Sun, a Police Scotland spokesperson confirmed that they had ended their probe into the 30-year-old striker.

“In relation to recent reporting regarding alleged inappropriate communications online, a full assessment has been carried out and it’s been established there is no criminality.”

The striker has scored 123 goals for the club and his deal expired at the end of June but the new manager decided to give the player a final chance, albeit on reduced wages. However, as allegations were made against Griffiths on social media, Celtic moved quickly and sent the player home as they launched an internal investigation into Griffiths’ alledged behaviour.

Ange Postecoglou will likely be annoyed at the sideshow that Griffiths has created around the pre-season plans. The support was split on whether the player should have been offered a new contract but if the internal investigation still goes against the striker, they must act appropriately and protect the integrity of the club.

Even if there is no criminality, Celtic may find that the player has breached the terms of his contract. If they find in favour of him, he will need to get himself up to speed with the rest of his teammates and put away his social media accounts.
