No Wanyama Return as Club Bruges move to sign former Celtic Star

NEIL LENNON may have decided to bring Fraser Forster back to Celtic but one of his other stars from Celtic’s famous 2-1 victory over Barcelona in 2012 will not be returning the the club.

Victor Wanyama opened the scoring that November evening to give Celtic the lead in the Champions League match against a fabulous Barcelona side at its peak. On the day that the English transfer window closed earlier this month Tottenham let it be known that they were prepared to let the former Celtic and Southampton man to go out on loan and both his old clubs were mentioned as possible destinations.

Southampton failed to act and with their window now shut that is a closed door as far a Wanyama return to St Mary’s is concerned. But there still remained a chance that Celtic would make a move.

That though does not seem to be the case with the BBC today reporting that Tottenham are in talks with Belgium side Club Bruges for a permanent transfer of Victor Wanyama. Apparently the fee will be around £9million for the 28 year old defensive midfielder.

Wanyama has had an injury hit time at Tottenham which has restricted the number of appearances he has managed. Last year he played just 13 times in the Premier League and over the two previous seasons played 18 and 36 times respectively.

His first team chances this season have decreased with the return of Harry Winks from injury and the summer signing of Tanguy Ndombele for a club record £53.8 million.

Wanyama starred in Tottenham’s run to the Champions League Final last season and was rather unfortunate to have been left on the bench in the Final in Madrid, with Liverpool winning 2-0 in what was a dull game.

Those Celtic supporters hoping to see Victor Wanyama back for the 10 in a Row push are going to be disappointed at today’s news.
