‘Not too impressed’: Celtic fans yet to warm to winter arrival

He is most likely going to be the last arrival in the excruciating tenure that Neil Lennon has endured, and also one of the least memorable, too. After Jeremie Frimpong left for Bayer Leverkusen with less than a week left of the transfer window, Everton fringe player Jonjoe Kenny was drafted in as his replacement on a six/month loan deal.

The move made sense for all parties; Kenny wasn’t featuring regularly at Everton after an impressive spell at Schalke, Celtic were in the need for a short-term fix at full back, and most importantly, the men with the money in East Glasgow were reluctant to pay for a permanent move given that a huge shakeup will occur over summer; likely involving a managerial change, too.

However, despite these factors, Kenny’s move reluctantly personifies a story that shows a real solemn end to the season. He is a player who can show real quality, but by coming in midway through a damp squib season, it doesn’t seem as though Kenny’s stay will be met with fond memories.

And that is the view of a majority of the Celtic fanbase; who have lambasted Kenny’s ability, claiming he just isn’t showing the strengths he has on Merseyside and Rhine-Westphalia in his stay at Paradise.

However, there were some plaudits for the Scouser; his move certainly isn’t the worst loan deal this season *we’re looking at you Shane Duffy*, and some fans were at least appreciative of his efforts.
