Oh reacts on social media to his first Celtic goal

One of the most pleasing things about our Scottish Cup result and performance against St Mirren on Saturday was the fact that new striker, Hyeongyu Oh managed to open his account for the Hoops. It’s always a pleasure to see a new player – but a forward in particular – score his first goal in Celtic colours.

The South Korean has made a few substitute appearances from the bench since joining the club from Suwon Bluewings in the K-League and despite a willingness to put in the graft and hard yards during those minor contributions, he hadn’t been quite able to get off the mark.

And sometimes, as we’ve seen throughout the footballing world, when a new striker keeps going without a goal it can end really badly and knock a players’ confidence. So to see Oh getting his well deserved goal at the weekend in the Scottish Cup game was a very pleasing outcome for all.

The big man has been reacting to his first goal in a Celtic jersey by posting a message on Instagram, thanking all who helped him to get his very first on the telly board for the Bhoys. The club’s official media team posted it out via Twitter and he had this to say:

“Thank you for your support! I was able to score this goal thanks to the fans, the manager, all the team staff and teammates. I will do my best to score as many as possible in future. Thank you @celticfc”

We hope it’s the first of many, Oh mate!

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.
