On This Day, former Celtic midfielder celebrates his birthday. The Highlander, who now plays for Premier League side Bournemouth, turns 29 today. Signed from Inverness CT in 2015, Christie was loaned back to Inverness before another loan at Aberdeen, which did the player the world of good as it had him playing regular football.

This, and a failed move for John McGinn, led to a breakthrough in Rodgers’ final season before pushing on under Neil Lennon. The COVID-19 outbreak probably kept him at Celtic for a year longer than the player would have wanted, especially with that urge to try himself in the Premier League. That campaign led to a lot of negative comments about Christie but the reality was he was out of position in an ailing team.
His time at Celtic was extremely impressive with 41 goals and 44 assists in 151 appearances during a successful period for the club. It appeared that he wished to test himself outwith Scottish football and Bournemouth offered a new lifestyle for the midfielder. It was a shame that we didn’t see more of Christie under Ange, who would have suited the No.8 role.
