On This Day highlights prove Elyounoussi’s best position

A YEAR AGO TODAY, Celtic beat Ross County at Parkhead. Neil Lennon’s side won 6-0 with goals from James Forrest, Callum McGregor and a brace each for Odsonne Edouard and Moi Elyounoussi. The game showed Celtic at their very dominant best and was a far-cry from the lacklustre and frankly depressing display churned out on Saturday against Rangers.

The Scottish Champions beat the Staggies with an impressive second half display but the real standouts were Odsonne Edouard and Moi Elyounoussi. Elyounoussi was aggressive coming in off that left hand side and doubling up in the wide areas. Diego Laxalt’s arrival could force Neil Lennon to revert back to 4-3-3, with Elyounoussi on the left and Edouard playing as a sole striker.

It is worth noting that at the time, Celtic had played 9 games and had 22 points whilst Rangers had played 8 games and had 21 points. This is not too dissimilar to the position that Celtic find themselves being 4 points behind Rangers with a game in hand.

There are a lot of games to play but Celtic need to improve dramatically as the showings so far have been sub-par. Neil Lennon will need to adapt if he wants to carry his side to make Scottish footballing history by surpassing Jock Stein’s 1974 record.
