On This Day: Tom Rogic seals unrivalled Invincible Treble for Celtic

Celtic sealed an Invincible Treble on this day thanks to a late goal from Tom Rogic against Aberdeen. After going the full 38 league games of the season unbeaten as well as beating Derek McInnes’ side in the League Cup Final, Brendan Rodgers and his team knew that they were ninety minutes away from becoming proper history makers.

Aberdeen went ahead through a Jonny Hayes strike before Stuart Armstrong struck to level things up straight away leaving the game on a knife edge with both sides missing chances to take the lead. In injury time, Tom Rogic picked up a pass from Armstrong before dancing through the dogged Aberdeen defenders and slotting the ball beyond Joe Lewis.

The Australian sparked scenes of jubilation in the Celtic end as it began to sink in what had been achieved by these proper Invincibles. The game was a Scottish Cup classic and will live long in the memory of the Celtic support. Here is my own view of the Invincible Treble Cup Final from last year… Thunder, Lightning then Tom Rogic’s Sensational Invincible Treble Winner.

Some teams may make it through the season unbeaten in the league but they failed to conquer on all fronts, Celtic’s team in 2016/17 managed that incredible achievement and it is extremely likely that it will never be beaten in the Scottish game.
