Opinion: The Rangers’ loss is a lesson for Celtic media and fans

Two matchdays ago there was widespread panic among Celtic media and fans following the club’s disappointing 2-1 loss at the hands of the Rangers in a heartless display. On the day, the Hoops were completely outplayed by their cross-city rivals and the loss also meant that Steven Gerrard’s side could go top of the Premiership if they won their game in hand. Now, they can’t anymore!

Yes, less than a month on and we are back to celebrating. Hearts just beat the Rangers 2-1 in order to shift the balance of the title back in Celtic’s favour. While Steven Gerrard’s side still have a match in hand, even all three points from that remaining game will leave them 2 points behind the defending Scottish Champions.

But let’s not get ahead of ourselves again. This result just shows how tight the league is this season. One bad day and everything can turn upside down. So, this lead that we have now, is as volatile as mercury. The Rangers are still a formidable team despite today’s result. And we cannot afford to slip up again now that we have been gifted the driver’s seat back in the title race.

The focus should now be on winning the next game and not look too far ahead. Any team can have a bad day at the office – the Glasgow side that has fewer of them will walk out with the title at the end of the season.
