“Our supporters were outstanding tonight, they deserve to get to another final”, Ange Postecoglou

Ange Postecoglou spoke to Celtic TV after the Premier Sports League Cup Semi-final against St Johnstone. The manager was delighted at the victory over a ferociously determined team. Celtic had to wait for their chance in the game at Hampden Park today. However, a reinvigorated James Forrest stepped up to the mark as he has done so many times in the past.

Ange stated that: ‘Our supporters were outstanding tonight, they deserve to get to another final.” How very true from the leader of our cause. The Celtic Support were immense today from the first whistle to the last. We were raucous and rowdy as to be expected in an encounter of such magnitude. The tribute to our dearly departed Lisbon Lion, Bertie Auld was pretty damned special tonight and something that will remain long in the memory.

The Celtic boss was pleased that we managed to overcome an extremely physical and negative footballing side to earn that spot in the League Cup Final through sheer endeavour in the end up. At times tonight it was a tough watch and also very frustrating. However, we got there eventually through James Forrest and his incredible knack for scoring important goals for this football club.

The boss was effusive in his praise of James, describing him as ‘an experienced, quality player’. It’s no wonder Ange has been eager to get James back fit and firing if he can come in from the cold and make an instant impact like tonight. We have struggled at times this season for depth in those wide areas and with the return of James and Mikey Johnston, we should be looking a lot more dangerous moving forward.

Our leader also took time to lay tribute to our very own Bertie Auld. He said: “Yeah, really important for us to do that today. Obviously, as we celebrate an immortal, it’s a sad time for those who love him and are closest to him. Hopefully today we made them smile a little bit, playing in the spirit Bertie would want.” Beautiful words from the manager and very fitting on behalf of the Celtic Family.

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.
