Photo Of The Day: Artur Boruc – The Holy Goalie

Today’s photo of the day is chosen to the honour the man who is currently holding his testimonial match against Celtic. That man is of course none other than Celtic and Legia Warsaw legend Artur Boruc.

Boruc was among the world’s best goalkeeper for a few years, at a time when he was plying his trade for Celtic. Indeed, there were many memorable moments for him in a Celtic jersey including that outstanding penalty save against Manchester United and the penalty he converted himself against Dundee in the cup shoot-out, nestling the ball in the top corner to boot!

However, the Holy Goalie was also known for his antics after matches. These include the refusal to shake any Rangers players hands and flying a champions flag at Ibrox. These moments and many more did little to harm his popularity with the Celtic support, who loved him for being a madman and wind up merchant.

Celtic currently lead Legia 1-0 and are playing superbly. We wish Artur all the best in his retirement. He will be fondly remembered as a great Celtic goalkeeper.
