Photo Of The Day: Patsy Gallacher Scores Possibly The Greatest Goal In Celtic’s History

The 1925 Scottish Cup Final is better known as The Patsy Gallacher Final these days. The reason for this is simple. With Dundee a goal to the good, Gallacher collected the ball inside his own half, beat five men, stumbled and then sharply rose up and, with the ball between his feet, somersaulted over the goalkeeper and into the net. The goal was the most extraordinary thing that had been seen on a football pitch.

James McGrory, playing in his first cup final, then scored a header to seal the trophy with a 2-1 victory.

The focus of today’s photo of the day, is this cartoon which was published in the local press to recreate Patsy Gallacher’s incredible goal. It is probably the greatest ever scored in Celtic’s history!
