Possible good news for Celtic as James Forrest continues after horrible Kazakhstan challenge

There’s always a collective wince when a star player goes down when playing for his country, particularly when it’s during an utterly pointless game played in front of an empty stadium.

Celtic fans will have feared the worst when James Forrest was brought down by a disgusting challenge from Aibol Abiken. Forrest had broken clear and was running at the back line when he was wiped out.

It was one of those challenges that you would think is fair enough if it’s a simple case of tripping the player up, he was taking one for the team and stopping a potentially dangerous situation.

The problem here from the Kazakhstan defender was he lunged in and caught Forrest right on the ankle with his studs. There was obvious concern with the medical team as the winger went off to receive treatment.

There’s been no official update yet, but Forrest came out to play in the second half and seems to be moving fine. He still looks quick and wants to get involved so you have to think he’s not feeling any lasting effects.

Hopefully this means he will be fine for the visit of Livingston at the weekend. If it does turn out that Stevie Clark has forced Forrest to play on and makes any injury worse then you can be sure that Neil Lennon will be utterly raging.

Forrest appears to be okay after picking up a knock

Scotland have come from behind to lead their opponents in the dead rubber match. Christie and McGregor are playing well in particular and look dangerous, but the whole team seems to be hampered by the lack of movement or presence up front from Steven Naismith.

He did manage a tap in to put Scotland in front, but that’s about it.
