Premier League sides tracking Celtic defender ahead of possible summer transfer

Premier League sides are reportedly tracking Celtic’s Carl Starfelt ahead of the summer transfer window. Starfelt has been excellent since joining from Rubin Kazan in the summer of 2021 playing alongside Cameron Carter-Vickers in the Celtic defence.

As reported by Sky Sports, the Swedish Internationalist has a number of admirers in the top league in England and some are considering whether to make a move for him this summer.

Starfelt has made 32 appearances this season, scoring twice. However, just one of those appearances came in the UEFA Champions League owing to an injury. The 27-year-old will no doubt be keen to test himself against Europe’s top teams and Ange will be keen to have both Starfelt and Carter-Vickers available to play together at the heart of the defence.

Celtic do have Yuki Kobayashi and Stephen Welsh behind the pair for cover. However, you would imagine that the manager and the player will want to at least get a Champions League campaign under his belt before deciding on his next move. Premier League moves are particularly tough to predict with recent example of Joe Aribo from Rangers failing to make the grade at Southampton, having scored for them in a European Final months before.

If the player does want to depart, you have to trust that Ange has a replacement in mind and has already started planning. Giorgos Giakoumakis and Josip Juranovic prove that the boss is not sentimental when it comes to making these calls.
