Pundit comments on ridiculous Greg Taylor link to Rangers

Pundit Michael Stewart has supported Kris Boyd’s suggestion that Greg Taylor could swap Celtic for Rangers this summer. The left back is expected to leave the club this summer after his contract expires. However, an extremely unlikely switch has been suggested.

Speaking to the Premier Sports Scottish Football Social Club, Stewart said that Rangers should consider the player as he is better than what they have but cast doubts on whether Taylor would be interested.

“I actually floated this idea two or three weeks ago. From a Rangers perspective, yeah I would.

“I don’t know what Greg Taylor will be thinking, but from Rangers perspective, it’s a free transfer and he is in the Scotland squad so it’s another Scottish player which is a huge asset.

“I don’t know whether Greg Taylor would be interested but he’s a quality player. But for me he’s better than Jefte and he’s better than (Ridvan) Yilmaz. So I would do it.”

There does not appear to be much to the story about Taylor and it appears that Stewart is only discussing it after comments from Kris Boyd. The conversation is only really happening because Sky pundit Boyd made the outlandish claim on April 1st. Speaking to the Scottish Sun’s YouTube channel, Boyd said: “It wouldn’t be the worst one for me for my club to have a little conversation with him. Could he switch sides in Glasgow?

“I know the rivalry between the two clubs but he’s Scottish and he ticks the boxes. You could ask the question.

“Greg has shown for a period of time now how consistent he has been. If he’s not going to be at Celtic, he wants to play regularly.”

Taylor will be a big loss to the squad. Although, from Brendan’s comments, it appears that it is not a financial decision and likely one that relates to the player wanting a new challenge.

Since joining from Killie in 2019, Taylor has made 209 appearances, scoring 9 goals and assisting on 32 occasions. Taylor has been a key figure under Neil Lennon, Ange Postecoglou and Brendan Rodgers, winning 11 trophies along the way. Before departing the club, Taylor will be targeting two more winners medals before landing at his next club.

Taylor is unlikely to even entertain the notion of moving to another Scottish side, never-mind Rangers. The 27-year-old has recently had a baby with his wife and will be looking at earning a long term contract out of the Glasgow goldfish bowl. The player will certainly not be interested in making a move that leaves him in such an awkward position.

The likely destination for Taylor is an English side given his personal circumstances as well as his closeness with Kris Ajer and Ryan Christie, who switched Glasgow for English football.
