Pundit Tips Griffiths for Celtic Exit

Barry Ferguson has tipped Leigh Griffiths to leave Celtic this January in an attempt to secure game time. The ex-Rangers captain told PLZ Soccer that the 28-year-old should be allowed to leave on loan as he has potentially come the third choice striker under Neil Lennon.

Edouard is first choice with the expected arrival of Polish U21 striker Paddy Klimala meaning game time for Griffiths might be harder to come to, especially considering the amount of games he’s missed due to injuries and personal issues.

“He needs to go and play. It’s as simple as that.

“I don’t think he’s going to do that at Celtic. If Edouard’s fit and available, he’s going to be number one and obviously they’ve signed this boy coming in for a lot of money as well.

“So for me I think the best solution for Celtic would be to loan him out for the last three/four months of the season.

“Go and let him get a certain amount of games and see if he can start banging goals in and then bring him back and make a decision over the summer.”

Griffiths has made 18 appearances for Celtic this season scoring 3 goals and despite the manager defending him on numerous occasions, Griffiths looks a shadow of the player that scored 40 goals in the 2015/16 season.

Ferguson is probably right, Griffiths needs to get his confidence back and a loan move might be the very thing that does that. Equally from Steve Clarke’s point of view, he will want Griffiths playing with a view to the Euro semi-final versus Israel.

Would it be a good move for Celtic to loan out Griffiths?
