Report: Aberdeen ‘to open talks’ with Jonny Hayes

ABERDEEN are set to open talks with Jonny Hayes as the Irishman looks to find his next club following his release from Celtic at the start of the month. The 32-year-old left the Pittodrie side back in 2017 for the Scottish Champions but is on the lookout for a new club when his contract with Neil Lennon’s side expired.

The Scottish Sun are reporting that Dons chairman Dave Cormack is keen to bolster his squad ahead of next season and sees free agent Hayes as someone that would improve upon their fourth place finish last year.

The report reads that the granite city side are hopeful that Hayes will join up with their pre-season camp in the next few days should a deal be sealed.

“Aberdeen are ready to open talks with Jonny Hayes about returning to Pittodrie.

“Dons chairman Dave Cormack admitted last week he was keen to bring the winger on board after his release by Celtic.”

In 62 appearances for the Scottish Champions, Hayes’ highlight was probably his goal at Ibrox, which sealed Celtic’s 2-0 win over Steven Gerrard’s side. The Irishman leaves the club with 8 winners medals after being part of one of the club’s most successful periods.

Hayes had been likely to get a new deal from the Scottish Champions; however, the Coronavirus pandemic may have drastically changed Celtic’s plans for the next season meaning that players that are on a decent wage are to be moved on to make space for new signings to improve the side.
