JACK HENDRY could be set to spend next season away from Celtic Park as reports this morning have linked the 25-year-old with a move to Belgium. Hendry has two years remaining and despite Celtic appearing short on defensive options, Neil Lennon doesn’t seem to see Hendry as part of his plans for next season.
The Daily Record are reporting that Oostende are keen on signing the central defender. Hendry signed for Melbourne City in January; however, a knee injury curtailed his game time Down Under and the ex-Dundee man is back for pre-season at Lennoxtown.
Hendry joined in January 2018 from Dundee but has faced criticism from supporters for some shaky performances for the Scottish Champions. Brendan Rodgers signed Hendry for north of £2m but has failed to prove himself at Celtic Park.
Belgian top flight side Oostende could offer Hendry the opportunity to get playing again to either prove himself to Celtic or resurrect his own career, which has stalled since moving to Glasgow.
Hendry arrived for a high fee, which would have added extra pressure to the youngster. Rodgers appeared content asking him to play at right back as well as at the heart of defence; however, he has struggled to justify the price tag – often copping flak when thrown in at the deep end by Rodgers. AEK Athens away was an example of Hendry being put in the deep end and judged harshly after a few games.
