Celtic enquired about re-signing defender Carl Starfelt last summer, according to a report. Brendan Rodgers side were in the market for another central defender before bringing Auston Trusty into the club.
The 29-year-old made the switch to La Liga in 2023 after a successful spell at Celtic, where he formed a formidable defensive partnership with Cameron Carter-Vickers and helped the club to five trophies in two seasons.
According to 67 Hail Hail, Celtic showed interest in re-signing Starfelt last year as they looked to strengthen their defence, but the financial demands of a deal proved too steep for the Scottish Champions.
Since arriving in Spain, Starfelt has endured some challenges but has still managed to rack up 57 appearances for Celta. There had been suggestions that he would move on after a fairly unhappy first season but, despite the ongoing transfer rumours, he appears to have settled at the club and is enjoying life in Vigo.

Meanwhile, newly promoted Serie A side Como—where former Barcelona and Chelsea star Cesc Fabregas is part of the setup—were also keen to bring the defender to Italy.
Celtic have found a successful partner for CCV in Trusty with the USA pairing establishing themselves as the preferred pairing at the back.
This in my opinion, would be a disastrous decision! If there’s one player I would NEVER want back in a Celtic shirt, it’s Starfelt! He was awful!
Wow. If true this just shows how backwards this club is sliding.
Starfelt was not good enough first time around and now talk of Ajer contact.
These guys didn’t get us far in Europe when they were in their younger years, so why would we want them now?
We are woeful at finding centre halves. Not one in the last decade has been good enough to compete in Europe and most wouldn’t be good enough for the Scottish Premier league if we didn’t dominate and have 70 per cent possession every game.
Since Denayer and Virgil we have had guys that are too slow and can’t win a header to save their lives. Then we insist on these guys trying to play short passes out of tight situations and we know how that ends.
FFS go get Mjalby to go scout centre halves for us. Someone who knows the craft, has played there at the highest level and has coached some excellent centre halves, instead of bringing in a long line of error prone, flat footed, turned too easy slow pokes.
If we want to look backwards, look back further and find players in the mould of Mjalby, Balde, Valharen, Caldwell, McManus, Van Dijk, Denayer, you know good centrehalves that used to be a constant around the place in the 2000’s.
But no. We will just keep acting like the mutt returning to our own vomit.
