It does feel likely that Celtic’s search for a new manager will rumble on for weeks, but there are some serious noises about former Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder getting the role.
His situation has been a strange one as his departure has taken a few days to get sorted, but a report from Sheffield United News makes for seriously interesting reading.
They cite their own sources which state his departure has been held up because of complications about any compensation that would be owed to Sheffield United if he gets the Celtic job.
That’s huge from Celtic’s point of view because that makes it sound like they have enticed him away rather than Wilder being sacked by the Premier League strugglers.
The exact amount of compensation isn’t specified but it’s described as a hefty amount, but there’s something that doesn’t quite add up about his departure and interest from Celtic being linked.
His work in taking Sheffield United to the top flight and doing well last season certainly makes him an interesting prospect, while it would surely mean that a formation of three at the back would become a permanent feature.
In Wilder’s favour it is his favourite formation, and you can see he drills his teams in a way that they have a clear plan and use roaming centre backs to their advantage, but the dismal effort this season also has to count against him.
It’s easy to see that he would be a contender and hopefully he is on the list of people who may be considered or interviewed, but it would be a shocker if Celtic really have him lined up in the way that the report suggests.

He was good in STIR CRAZY !!!!!!
