Reports: Celtic join race to sign highly rated free agent

Celtic have joined the race for Ghanaian defender Abdul Mumin Suleman, who will be a free agent this summer. The 21-year-old joined FC Nordsjaelland in August 2016 from the Right to Dream African football academy. He has gained plaudits for his performances in the Superliga.

The Daily Mail are reporting that Celtic and Brighton are circling for the central defender. The report continues that Celtic are particularly impressed in his ‘comfort on the ball despite his physically imposing 6ft 3ins frame.’

After rejecting bids in January from Strasbourg and Waregem, the defender will be able to leave for free in the summer. Which, given the economic situation in Scotland, is a major bonus.

Suleman could be shown the progress and breakthrough of another Scandinavian export, Kris Ajer or Jeremie Frimpong, who have used the club to breakthrough into the first team. Celtic’s pathway will be attractive to young players, who see the possibility of going down to play in the Premier League in the future.

Virgil Van Dijk is perhaps the greatest success story in recent seasons for Celtic’s business model. Signed for a modest fee, Van Dijk would become one of Celtic’s best players, playing in Europe and winning trophies. It is no surprise that he went on and became one of the best defenders in the world and should be Celtic’s example when discussing the possibilities of a move to Glasgow.

Celtic will be recruiting players for next season on a reduced budget due to Coronavirus. The club’s Head of Recruitment, Gary Penrice, confirmed that the club were watching 240 targets.
