Reports: Celtic May Need to Pay £7m for ex-Basel Attacker

SLOVAN BRATISLAVA have estimated their prize asset, Andraz Sporar at a whopping £7m amid reported interest from Neil Lennon’s Celtic.

The 25-year-old has shot to prominence with his performances in the Europa League as well as 20 goals in the league this season, that have surely done enough to catch the attention of Nicky Hammond and Neil Lennon.

As reported in the Scottish Sun, Slovan Bratislava are quoted as wanting £7m for their man but seem keen on the Celtic link – going as far as making a public statement about the reported interest from the Scottish Champions.

The Sun claims that Celtic have rejected the notion that they made a bid but that they have watched the Slovenian internationalist in the Europa League. The Slovenian club finished third in their Europa League group but Sporar was the standout, scoring 5 times.

The statement makes for an advertisement for the ex-Basel player that became the biggest signing in Slovenian football history when he traded in Switzerland for his homeland in 2018.

“Celtic showed a huge interest in Andraz, but we are not only in touch with them. There is also interest from big clubs in France, Spain, Italy, Portugal and Belgium. We expect even more clubs will address offers during the next transfer period.

“Andraz’s value is higher than €5.5million. I can’t imagine selling him for lower than €7m to €8m. We already received big offers last summer, but he stayed at the club. If he had gone then it would have been the biggest transfer in the history of Slovakia.

“Now clubs are addressing even better offers than last summer. But we will agree to sell only if an offer matches the current value of Andraz. His value increased a lot during the last month. He’s scored 20 goals this season, plus six assists.

“With his performance in the group stage of the Europa League, he showed he has the quality for European football. We will only accept specific offers that match the quality and value of the player.”

Last season, Sporar was awarded the Slovan League’s award for best goalscorer with 29 goals as Slovan Bratislava won the title. Sporar is the calibre of striker that Celtic need and it would be interesting if he were to sign as a massive statement of intent and an option push as well as to partner Odsonne Edouard.
