Reports link Victor Wanyama with January Celtic return but one player may leave

It was always going to be interesting to see how Celtic would approach the January transfer window. Things are going very well, so any potential big name signings could disrupt the balance in the first team.

Victor Wanyama has become a complete outcast at Spurs so a January move would make sense. A recent report from The Guardian has suggested that Celtic are looking to bring him back to Parkhead on a potential loan deal.

They don’t suggest if that would include some sort of option to make it a permanent move in the Summer, but it does sound like it. You have to think that his wages could be a huge obstacle when it comes to a long term return, but he might decide to take a pay cut if it means enjoying his football again.

The real problem would come with finding a place for him in the team. Realistically it would mean one of Scott Brown, Ryan Christie or Callum McGregor would need to make way to accommodate him in the starting line up.

As a longer term replacement for Broony it might make sense, but he’s shown that there’s still plenty of games left in him yet.

Hayes has been impressive lately

On the flip side the story does indicate that one player may be on the way out. Jonny Hayes has been impressive in the past few games but links with a move to England continue to get stronger. Huddersfield are the team that The Guardian has suggested would be in for Hayes.

If it wasn’t for the past few games then there wouldn’t be an awful lot of opposition to letting the Irishman go. His versatility and reliability make him an incredibly useful squad player for Neil Lennon. The first team might not be overly weakened if he does leave, but he’s certainly earned the right to stay if he wants to.
