Rodrigo Riquelme Update – Someone’s “Knocking on the Door” – but it’s Not Celtic after all

CELTIC sources have denied the reports that came out of Spain yesterday that the Scottish Champions had made an enquiry to Atletico Madrid about their 20 year old winger Rodrigo Riquelme.

Riquelme is entering the final year of his contract with the Spanish giants but manager Diego Simeone is looking to extend the deal and send the playmaker out on loan next season.

The Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo claimed that Celtic and Real Betis were two clubs that had already enquire about taking the winger on loan – a claim that has been dismissed by Celtic sources.  Here is what the Spanish paper reported:

“And then there is Rodrigo Riquelme . He ends his contract in 2021 and Atlético wants to extend it. The 20-year-old wants minutes in a higher category and can also be loaned if he extends his bond. Teams like Celtic or Betis have already knocked on his door.”

.There seems to be plenty of actual transfer action happening around Celtic at the moment as Neil Lennon looks to add numbers to his squad of real top quality players. But the young Atletico Madrid star is NOT going to be one of them.
