Ronny Deila set to be appointed manager at Belgian side Standard Liege

Belgian side Standard Liege have beaten off interest from Blackburn Rovers and look set to appoint the former Celtic manager Ronny Deila as their new boss. The Norwegian coach, who led New York City to the MLS Cup last season, has been looking for a move back to Europe and it now looks like he’s heading for Belgium.

Sports journalist Mario Reinoso appears to have broken the story that Ronny has negotiated his exit from New York City after just over two years at the club and has reached agreement with Standard Liege with a formal announcement imminent.

Ronny had two seasons in charge of Celtic after succeeding Neil Lennon. He won the Scottish Premiership in both his seasons in charge and also added a league cup success in his first season where he was denied a treble by perhaps the biggest honest mistake in recent years against Inverness Caley Thistle in the Scottish Cup semi-final at Hampden.

The Ronny Roar became a trademark celebration after a victory and the Celtic support clearly took Ronny to heart.

His second season was difficult with a number of senior players seemingly unwilling to give the Norwegian their full support and after a penalty shoot out defeat to theRangers in the Scottish Cup semi-final he decided to call time on his stint as Celtic manager, to be succeeded by Brendan Rodgers.

Ronny remains hugely popular among the Celtic support and has never hidden his ongoing affection for our club. Everyone connected with Celtic will wish him all the best in his new job.

wow. He anticipates @sachatavolieri that Ronny Deila would become the new coach of Standard Liège in the Jupiler Pro League. The Norwegian technician would have reached an agreement with the front office of #NYCFC . He would leave the Bronx franchise after 2 and a half seasons with 1 MLS Cup.
