Rosenborg 0-1 Celtic: Video, This is the Day, This is the Day that we Win Away

CELTIC beat Rosenborg 1-0 this evening in Norway and in the other match Salzburg got the only goal of the game against their Red Bull cousins RB Leipzig to win the group and set Celtic up for match day 6 against the Austrian Champions with Celtic needing only a draw to qualify.

Had the result been 1-0 to the Germans, Celtic would have had to win 3-0 against Salzburg to go through.

Rosenborg in their last 27 games at home have now scored in 25 of them and the two where they drew a blank were both against Celtic.

Here are our minute by minute notes from tonight’s match…

2 Mins – Sinclair first to test Jansen in the Rosenborg goal with a curled effort from the edge of the box but it is easily gathered by the Norwegian Player of the Year.

5 Mins – Kieran Tierney does brilliantly down the left wing and fires a cross across the front of the Rosenborg goal but no-one gambles so no tap in. Frustrating!

7 Mins – Mikael Lustig finds Tom Rogic after some fine passing play from Celtic. The big Australian’s shot goes wide.

10 Mins – Rogic breaks through after strong play from Christie, he tried to do a one two with Edouard rather than shoot himself and the chance is lost.

17 Mins – More pressure from Celtic sees Forrest back heel the ball to Christie at the edge of the box but his shot is deflected for a corner, which Rogic pulls out of the sky brilliantly but his shot is also blocked by the resolute Rosenborg defence.

19 Mins – Another opportunity to shoot, this time for Forrest, but again he attempts the pass and chance is gone. Celtic gulity of trying to walk the ball into the net here.

21 Mins – Forrest is found by Christie inside the box, he chests ball down for the shot but a Rosenborg interception in the nick of time concedes another corner.

22 Mins – Celtic continue to dominate with 70% possession in the opening 20 minutes and Craig Gordon a virtual spectator.

23 Mins – Rogic low shot looks a goal all the way but frustratingly Jansen gets down to make a great save.

23 Mins – Rogic brings ball down brilliantly – again – but another shot goes wide.

26 Mins – First danger moment for Celtic as both Sinclair and Christie are weak in their challenge and the cross goes across the Celtic goal at pace. Thankfully no takes.

28 Mins – Edouard brings ball down and looks to get a shot away but a fly Rosenborg hand frustrates him and is missed by the referee. Should have been a penalty.

30 Mins – Another corner, this time deeper, Rogic control is excellent and his shot is saved.

30 Mins – Edouard is next to try his luck but his shot is off target as Celtic’s pressure on the Rosenborg goal intensifies.

34 Mins – Celtic have Rosenborg pinned deep inside their own half with an excellent passage of play but eventually Forrest loses possession.

41 Mins – GOAL CELTIC! James Forrest skins the centre half and puts in a lovely flighted cross onto Scotty Sinclair’s head and he heads high into the net to give Celtic a well deserved lead.

45 Mins – Half-time Rosenborg 0 Celtic 1 – a well deserved lead for the Scottish Champions who should probably have been further ahead.

46 Mins – Celtic sleeping and Rosenborg are in down the left wing, excellent clearing tackle from Benkovic tidies things up nicely.

48 Mins – The rather nasty Denic booked for a cynical challenge on Forrest who looks in some real pain as a result.

50 Mins – Kieran Tierney finds Sinclair in the centre of the box but the goalscorer takes too long and his effort is blocked. Christie, who started the move, picks it up and and drivers into the box but Jansen gathers his cross comfortably enough.

58 Mins – This time Denic takes out Tierney and is very fortunate not to be given a second yellow card. A lucky escape for the Rosenborg hard-man. Where’s Broony?

61 Mins – Typically good run from James Forrest causes panic in the Rosenborg defence but the final ball fails to reach Sinclair.

64 Mins – Ryan Christie gets in the way of a goal-bound Edouard shot as this start to get a little nervy.

65 Mins – A double substitution from Brendan Rodgers and Gamboa replaces Lustig, who has been nursing a knock and Edouard’s work is done as Leigh Griffiths comes on for the last 25 minutes.

70 Mins – Good play from Rogic, who finds Sinclair in a good position but his cross is just too high for James Forrest.

74 Mins – Excellent news from Austria as group leaders Salzburg go ahead against RB Leipzig. If things stay this way it’s advantage Celtic – and a draw agains the Austrians on Match Day 6 will see us through.

75 Mins – A nervy few passages of play results in a few half chances for the home side but Craig Gordon remains untroubled. Brendan Rodgers makes his final substitution taking off dimes Forrest and bringing on his skipper Scott Brown to make sure we see this out.

78 Mins – Gamboa cross almost landed perfectly for Kieran Tierney but the ball just wouldn’t fall for him.

80 Mins – More fantastic play from Kieran Tierney to release Callum McGregor inside the box but his touch is uncharacteristically heavy and the referee fails to award him the corner he should have had.

90 Mins – Five flaming minutes added!

93 Mins – Corner to Rosenborg is well defended…by Tom Rogic! Needs must and all that!

94 Mins – Leigh Griffiths tries to catch Jansen by surprise but the keeper is alert enough to save.

95 Mins – The final whistle goes and This is the Day, This is the Day that we Win Away! the other match ends 1-0 to Salzburg, congratulations to them on winning the group.
