Roy Keane less likely for Celtic as a familiar name suddenly becomes the favourite to take over

If we’ve learned one thing from the betting and odds on who’s going to be the next Celtic manager, it’s that nobody really knows what’s going on.

There has been plenty of talk this week about Roy Keane although it’s worrying that a lot of that speculation may be based on one tweet from Micah Richards, but there’s no sign of anything happening there.

Keane is out of work so if he was the man then it would make sense to get him in as soon as possible, so as the days slip by without anything happening with him then it does look much less likely.

Eddie Howe will be a familiar name to Celtic fans because he’s been linked to the role for a while, and a report from Chronicle Live has indicated that he’s now the odds-on favourite to take over at Celtic next season.

The problem for the fans here is that there’s no obvious sign of why his odds have tumbled so quickly – Howe hasn’t said anything publicly and there’s nothing to suggest that talks have taken place.

It’s much more likely that a couple of bets were optimistically placed and that’s what caused the pile-on, but it’s starting to look like the market isn’t really a fair representation of what’s really going on.

There’s still a feeling that Howe is holding out for a Premier League job, so if that genuinely is the case then it’s probably best for Celtic to look elsewhere.

It would show that being here isn’t his priority and you would worry that he’ll jump at the first job that comes up, so it would still be a surprise if he does get the role.
