Sacking expected: Manager has to be ruled out of the Celtic race after a dreadful run of form

We’ve seen a lot of names being linked to the Celtic job just now, but hopefully the list will start to narrow down as we approach the summer.

Former striker Chris Sutton recently talked up Alex Neil as a potential candidate, but that looked like a seriously worrying tout at the time.

He’s had some decent promotion campaigns with Hamilton and Norwich in his time but he’s never really had a job where he’s expected to win every week, and his Preston team have been pretty turgid this year.

They probably won’t go down after a reasonable start to the season, but a run of four defeats in five and some uninspiring performances have put him under some pressure.

A report from Football Insider has even indicated that he’s now set to be sacked after the defeat to Luton Town today, so it’s pretty clear that he’s not the man to take over at Celtic Park just now.

Obviously it could simply be the case that this was Chris Sutton talking up a friend in the media and there was never any interest, but his sacking certainly puts the conversation to bed.
